Gavin Mead (b. 4/24/1999) is a Dayton-native Photographer. He graduated with his BFA in Photography from Wright State University in 2023. During his school years, he discovered his love for darkroom development and film photography. He now resides in the town of Troy, working to set up his own art career. Gavin has shot for several Dayton events such as the 2023 and 2024 Vampire Ball and he often works with models for his photos. His current project involves the alternative process known as Mordancage.
For most people, photography is for capturing a single moment of your reality. The moment you're having is memorable and an image of it will solidify those memories. But when your memory fades and warps, what does that photo say to you anymore? Was it a memory or a dream?
In my work, I capture dreams and the photos themselves warp. I take photos not from a moment, but from an unconscious feeling. My goal with all of my work is to capture an emotion or a concept rather than what I simply see. I feel that, when I begin to lose myself, my work will better inform me of my own life rather than images of faces that have become strangers in a moment that drowns.
