Many years ago, I used to pick purple hull
crowder peas in this very same field in Southern Alabama. It is extremely
hot in AL. from experience, I knew I needed to leave no later than 10 am.
Well, that morning, I was leaving the field, these 2 ladies were just
arriving. As I was putting my bags of peas in my car I noticed one of them
had opened an umbrella and it made me chuckle so I raced home to grab my camera
and returned to the field to snap a couple of pictures. If they had been “seasoned” pea pickers, they would have gotten there Much earlier, and picking peas goes twice as fast if you use both hands 🙂
